Get Shirt Savvy

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2010

The world’s oldest preserved garment, discovered, is a “highly sophisticated” linen shirt from a First Dynasty Egyptian tomb at Tarkan, ca. 3000B.C. Even the Egyptians were aware of the shirts sophistication. The shirt’s reputation took a bit of a nose dive before the 20th century as they were considered as men’s underwear. In the middle ages, the shirt was worn as an undergarment, next to the skin.

Everytime you slip on your favorite shirt, it is worth some reflection on its origins. Colored shirts were introduced over 200 years ago, but the idea of striped shirts was still a way off. However, these colored shirts were worn by the lower class. It was not until the 20th century where the shirt gained its’ rightful place among the middle to upper classes. This is the century where the first striped shirts were introduced, with the idea of bringing life and color into offices.

In recent decades the luxury shirt’s ego has been dented. Once was a time when these shirt were worn purely for formal occasions. Recently, fashion trends dictated that luxury shirts and striped shirts can be worn to various less formal occasions like nightclubs and bars. The fact that the shirt is so versatile, suggested that the luxury shirt can be worn with jeans. Decreasing prices of the formal shirt meant that distribution circled down to the middle classes.

There are various styles now available. Gone are the days of the only way to differentiate between shirts was color or whether they were striped shirts. Certain retailers have now introduced a new style called the Winstone which is a sharper shirt with a smaller on trend collar with no plaquet to give a cleaner look. This luxury shirt has been designed with a single cuff to offer a more elegant appearance.

The luxury shirt tends to be more expensive than a more casual shirt , but the benefits in wearing a fitted apparel with all the accessories, proves this is a sound investment as people really notice a quality shirt. First impressions count, they can see the quality of the fabric, shape and stitching. Everyone knows that one should not judge a book by its’ cover, unfortunately in today’s society this is the case. The person wearing this luxury shirt will be judged as someone who has class, style and confidence. It is very difficult to make a bad impression when wearing this kind of shirt. The luxury shirt is not only a great choice to influence people’s opinion of yourself, but a quality shirt feels great on the individuals skin. When one buys quality, they feel quality. Something the Egyptians had in mid all those centuries ago.

Mens Shirts Collar Size Right

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2010

Measuring your neck size
To get your collar size right measure round your neck towards the bottom where the collar will sit such that you can comfortably fit in one finger between your neck and the measuring tape. In the UK, measurements are usually in inches and the average neck size is 16 inches approximately. To convert inches into centimeters, multiply by 2.54; to convert from centimeters to inches, divide by this same number.

If you have an average body size, your collar size will also determine your overall shirt size as your chest circumference and arms length will all fit a standard shirt cut. That’s pretty handy when buying shirts without having to try them on – all you have to know is your collar size.

Out-of-range sizes
If you’re a man with longer than average arms or a heavy or skinny chest, all is not lost. Brand manufacturers produce tables detailing shirt measurements for the neck, chest and arm lengths. Men then just have to take their overall measurements and pick which ones fit them. Many brands also produce shirts in extra sizes for example with longer arm sleeves. If you are quite slim, you can opt for tailored or slim-fit shirts. Finally, if your measurements really don’t fit anything the manufacturer offers, you will have to go down the bespoke route.

Before choosing this option, don’t forget that if you are not going to wear a tie, then you can buy a shirt that fits all you body measurements with the exception of the collar, say if your neck size is above or under average. Also, if you are looking at buying a short-sleeves shirt, then your arms length doesn’t matter.

You should now know enough about shirt sizes and collar measurements to buy the right shirts for men, whether online or in the shop, just by going by the stated measurements.

Wedding Tuxedos

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2010

There are many different styles of tuxedos available that the groom can choose to go along with his personal style. It is just as important to coordinate his attire with the bride’s gown and her attendants’ dresses. A search for the tuxedo should begin as soon as the bridal gown has been ordered so that the groom will have ample time to select the tuxedo with the style and fit that suit him best.

Before going thru the process of tuxedo selection, a choice has to be made on whether to buy or rent one. If one has the occasion to wear a tuxedo at least once or twice in a one year period and would like to add this to his wardrobe, then it would be more economical to buy a classically styled tuxedo than to rent one. While the groom may want to buy a brand new tuxedo, it might be tough to force the purchase of tuxedos on his groomsmen especially when matching attire of the wedding party is an important consideration.

However, it is very possible to buy a tuxedo on the cheap via online purveyors of inexpensive tuxedos. This is worthy of consideration since renting a tuxedo can cost upward of $150. If the groom is fashion conscious and prefers to wear the newest style to each event, then renting would be the better option. Consider your budget when making a decision of whether to buy or rent. Most grooms find that tuxedo rental is the most preferred option.

Not all tuxedos are necessarily alike. Select a style that will match the theme of your wedding. For a formal evening wedding, choose a tail coat, white shirt, white vest and white bow tie. All of the accessories for this type of wedding tuxedo are in white. A traditional tuxedo, also known as the black tie, is the black single breasted, single button tux with sharply cut lapels, worn with a white shirt that has a stiff collar and black bowtie. It is also worn with a vest or a cummerbund (a big, frilly belt made of silk that wraps around your waist) and black shiny stripes pants.

For a formal wedding prior to 6 pm, a morning coat, or cutaway, is worn. This is typically a full length formal coat, single breasted, that is “cut away” or shorter in the front and often worn with a vest and tie and gray striped pants. During the warm summer months, the groom may opt to wear the dinner jacket which is usually white or ivory. This will particularly look well with formal black trousers that has a side satin stripe.

Your wedding may be the most important event in your life. As the bride shines and looks spectacular in her wedding gown, the groom should complement her by being well-styled and polished in his tuxedo.
